Privacy

Your data, plainly.

Last updated · 9 July 2026

The short version: we collect as little as possible, we never sell or share your data for marketing, and there is no tracking on this site. What little we do hold, you can see, correct, or have erased with a single email.

Who we are

Savena is an independent conservation initiative, run from the Netherlands. For anything in this policy, write to hello@savena.earth — a person reads it, usually the founder.

Field Notes (the newsletter)

If you sign up for Field Notes, we store your email address. We use double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm from your own inbox. To be able to prove that consent (as Dutch law asks), we also record the time and IP address of your confirmation and where on the site you signed up.

Every letter carries a one-click unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we can be certain never to write to you again — if you'd rather be erased entirely, email us and we will delete the record.

Your address is used for Field Notes only: a short letter, a few times a year. Never for anything else, never passed to anyone else.

Donations

Donations are processed by WhyDonate, a Dutch donation platform, on their own secure pages. Your payment details (card, iDEAL, bank) never touch our website or servers. The name, email and payment information you enter there are handled by WhyDonate under their privacy policy.

Earlier donations were processed by Stripe; Stripe retains those payment records under their privacy policy. For monthly supporters from that period we stored an email address and a secure link for managing the subscription — nothing more.

When you email us

Mail to hello@savena.earth arrives in a mailbox hosted by Zoho Mail (EU). Your message stays there for as long as our conversation needs it, and you can ask us to delete it at any point.

No tracking

This site sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. We don't follow you around the web, we don't build profiles, and we have nothing to sell.

Like any website, our hosting keeps standard, short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) for security — spotting abuse, rate-limiting automated traffic — and nothing else. That's our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe; the logs expire on their own.

Where your data lives

We keep no servers of our own. The small set of services that run Savena, each seeing only what its job requires:

  • Vercel — hosts the website (server logs).
  • Supabase — the database holding newsletter sign-ups.
  • Resend — sends our emails (confirmations, Field Notes).
  • Zoho Mail — our mailbox for hello@savena.earth.
  • WhyDonate — processes donations; Stripe holds records of earlier donations.
  • Upstash — rate limiting; holds an IP address briefly, then forgets it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask, at any time, to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to object to how it's used, or to receive a copy of it. One email to hello@savena.earth is enough — we'll answer within a month, and there's no form to fill in.

If you feel we've handled your data poorly, you also have the right to complain to the Dutch data-protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first.

Changes

If the way we handle data changes — a new service, a new purpose — we'll update this page and the date at the top. We won't quietly widen what we collect.
